An “Oh damn!” moment on Twitter
While everyone thought 2022 was over with its peculiarities and adventures — from Russia invading Ukraine and Qatar holding the World Cup to Will Smith slapping Chris Rock and Henry Cavill leaving his iconic roles — Greta and Andrew had an interesting Twitter exchange that shocked some and entertained others.
The men’s rights proponent mocked the climate chang activist by asking her to calculate the total carbon emissions of his thirty-three vehicles. In response, Thunberg clapped back by asking him to “get a life” while accusing Tate of having “small-dick energy”. Her slap-on-the-face response was both hilarious and thought-provoking.
Hilarious or ridiclous?
It was hilarious because Tate is notorious for being a misogynist and for his conservative ideas. His right-wing tendencies even made some moderate Muslims doubtful about his recent conversion to Islam and perceived him as the wrong person to be associated with their religion. However, Tate has also emerged as a champion of men’s rights in the USA.
However, Thunberg body-shamed Tate, an occurrence that exposes the hypocrisy of the “snowflake culture” where sexist remarks towards women are not tolerated but similar attacks on men aren’t only accepted but celebrated. Moreover, Thunberg’s authenticity has often come under question and she’s often ridiculed as the climate change’s poster child.
Can you smell something burning?
In short, I have gone through several comments under Greta’s quote and they’re filled with people defending her. Now, I’m no fan of Tate and hadn’t even heard of him before he became a Muslim. However, I’m forced to think that, had Tate said something sexist about Greta, he would’ve been labeled a pervert by the internet. So, when will these double standards against men end?
In the end, if you think Greta “destroyed” Tate or “burnt him to a crisp”, I believe Tate deserves it. He’s a prick and is famous for his hatred of women, as apparent from his several hateful remarks in this regard. But Greta’s response wasn’t anything more than a young girl’s shut-up call to an obvious troll. Guess 2022 entertained us in its final days as well!
